Children are taught cycling in areas where no transportation is available. Special coaching classes and evening tuition centers providing a conducive atmosphere for the children to study are also arranged. Annual residential camps are held in summer during school holidays. The residential camps include yoga and meditation sessions, sports and games events, debate competitions, cultural evenings, adolescent health discussion and medical check ups. KSRSD has encouraged and supported children to go beyond high school education and attain college degree. Many children from the villages are graduate and diploma holders. A few of them are enrolled in professional engineering, medical and nursing colleges. The first engineering graduate completed her B.E in 2006 from Anna University.

SUPPORT FOR HIGHER EDUCATION

  • Educational guidance and counseling

Lack of necessary guidance at the right time ruins the life of these youngsters. At the same time giving appropriate guidance at the right time can change their lives for the better. Empowering these youths with adequate information, the options available, and helping them to make a choice of school courses according to his/her aptitude and skill.
  • Financial support is provided for higher education in professional courses. Support is given to exceptional cases or first generation learners - So far ten students were able to receive financial support to attend engineering, occupational therapy, nursing and diploma engineering institutions.  Read more
  • Supportive Tuition classes for academically weak children every evening

KSRSD addresses problems that are specific to rural areas. The supportive tuition class organized by KSRSD with the help of part time teachers is one such endeavor. In the majority of rural households the children attending school are the first generation learners. Along with their studies, these children have to help their parents either with work or with household chores. Lack of parental support coupled with the inability of parents to give support for their child's education result in negligence among the students and lack of interest in their studies. KSRSD feels it is essential to support these children to study, as well as help their parents understand the importance of education.
  • Intensive coaching for 10th and 12th students to prepare for Competitive exams

English and Mathematics always remained as a challenge for the rural students. A mere passing grade in these two subjects has been a major hurdle for them in their school final examinations. Failure to pass the public exam eventually puts an end to their education. In order to help these students cross that hurdle, KSRSD organizes special coaching classes for school finals in English and Mathematics. This has helped not only the children but also the schools to mark an incredible progress that helped them for further expansion in terms of getting funds from the government.
  • Personality development programs for the adolescents

Adolescence is the stage in life in which a person can be molded into socially responsible and productive individual. At the same time, unless handled with care this stage will turn in to turmoil and create havoc. To trigger the positive attitude and behaviors, KSRSD's contribution is the personality development camps held every year during summer vacation. Normally this residential program is held as a three-day camp.
  • Inter school competitions on sports and cultural events

In conjunction with Children's Day each year KSRSD organizes sports and cultural events for school children. Usually 20 Schools in the project area participate in the competition. This gives the children of rural areas an opportunity to showcase their talents in the atmosphere of a fun and healthy competition.
  • Providing need based assistance

For no reason whatsoever, should a child's right to education be denied. Keeping this in mind, need based assistance is provided to selected children to help them obtain a decent education. Provisions of a bicycle, arranging hostel accommodation, arranging admission to a convenient school, and counseling are the services we provide in this category so far.
  • Education for Livelihood Assistance

Outside of school, children are taught various skills like service and repair of bicycles, making o f jute bags and other jute products, and production of sanitary napkins. These skills help them to earn an extra income during their school years and also help in employment after high school.
